why a broker and not a comparison site?
What will a comparison site really do for you ?
Comparison sites are sponsored by the lenders appearing in their comparison tables. This is true whether you’re looking to compare energy prices, or car and house insurance. That’s why you’ll see some insurance companies telling you to check their prices direct as they don’t pay to appear on comparison websites. It’s also why our brokers go direct to the lenders: so you can too.
You won’t know if the most suitable deal for you is on that comparison website, you’ll only know it’s the cheapest of the ones that pay to appear in the results. If your priority is finding the cheapest monthly payments, you’ll want to know not only that it’s there on the comparison website but also available to you and that there are no nasty stings in the tail.
On a comparison website, you will tend to see big headlines on the interest rates or other attractive features but you will have to look much harder to find the small print. A table just won’t do the same job as a broker who will spell it all out for you so you can compare the total cost of the mortgage, not just the headline interest rate.
Our brokers make specific recommendations which are personal to you and based on all of your circumstances. No automated site can do that for you.
Even worse, you will often see something you want in the results table, call up for it and find that it isn’t available or, at least, not for the price you were quoted on the comparison site. This is because the sites don’t work on your details accurately enough to come up with a personalised quote that will form the basis of mortgage deal.

Form Object
A mortgage comparison website is nothing more than a form of advertising for lenders and a way of passing your details to third parties. Simple.
Mortgage comparison websites advertise all over the place, on television, radio, billboards, and often can afford to advertise as much as if not more than the lenders they are promoting. This is also the case for insurance comparison websites for car and home insurance. They are apparently the only place for you to get a real idea of what you can borrow and from whom but should you believe this ?
Comparison websites operate as businesses, they’re not there simply to help you out when you’re doing your research. They are free to you to use but there is a cost. And that cost is what is paying for all the heavy advertising that led you to their website in the first place. They make money from the lenders who are willing to pay to put their results in the results table once you’ve put your details in. This means that you will only see the lenders who pay for this form of advertising. If a lender does not choose to advertise in this way, then they will not be in the results table. You will no doubt have seen the adverts of certain direct insurers who proudly tell you that they are not on comparison sites because they do not pay to be on them. Well, that’s exactly it, you will only ever be sure of your best price if you go direct.
Again, the other way that mortgage comparison websites make their money is by selling your details. If you have put in your contact details, you may find that this enables the website to go on and sell those and all your other personal details to a third party so that they can contact you and secure your mortgage business. It’s not such a bad thing because hopefully the broker you end up talking to will be able to look at a bigger portion of the mortgage market and be impartial when it comes to lenders and make sure that your best interests are paramount. But that’s only a “hopefully” isn’t it ? Wouldn’t you prefer to know who you’re dealing with up front, what their qualifications and experience are ? Wouldn’t you prefer to choose the brokers you’re dealing with and not have an anonymous person somewhere receive all the details you’ve put into the mortgage comparison website ?
We want you to know who you’re dealing with from the very start so bwe’ve designed a few pages so that you can get to know how our brokers operate and what their experience and qualifications are, be assured that they are independent and whole of market. It’s also why we can promise you that we will not pass on your details to any third parties. None.
In fact, what happens is that the details you put into our website are used only by our brokers in order that they can get some background information and make sure that your first conversation with them is off to a flying start. That’s when their real work begins and when you can start to relax.
Our mortgage brokers go direct to lenders on your behalf and will sift through tens and tens of lenders and hundreds of mortgage products without limits relating to advertising or who pays what. The priority is finding the cheapest monthly payment and the most suitable mortgage deal for you.
